There are 2 holidays that make me extremely proud of being an American. Veteran's Day and Independence Day. I served in the military for 5 years and I have to say it was great! I didn't have all great days but overall it was a great experience.
I was really introduced to people from all walks of life, all types of characters and some of the best people you would want to meet. Two of my most influential people were a Master Chief that saved me over and over again and a Senior Chief who had been in the Navy longer than I was old.
I learned a lot about life from these guys and a lot about people and meeting people exactly where they came from. There is a lot to be said for traditions and how they enter into our daily lives. There is a lot to be said for an organization the size of a 3rd world country operating with such efficiency and precision and lot to be learned from as well.
To this day I am very proud to wear my medals and ribbons on Veteran's Day and I give thanks for all the men and women who came before me and those who have come after me.
Freedom isn't free but it is worth fighting for.
